Country stars like Reba McEntire and Rodney Atkins are leading NASCAR fans in prayer this evening after a horrific accident at the end of Saturday's (Feb. 23) race at Daytona which left over two dozen fans injured. One adult is in surgery with a life-threatening head injury, while a 14-year-old is in critical condition.

ESPN reports that fourteen of the 28 injured fans were treated on site, while the others were taken to local hospitals. A multi-car accident during the Nationwide Series race at Daytona ended with Kyle Larson's car flying from the pavement, into the catch fence that separates the track from the fans. Video shows the chain fence mangled after the accident. Larson escaped without injury, but at least one of his tires flew into the crowd.

"Praying for the 17 fans injured at the Daytona Nationwide race today," McEntire said on Twitter shortly after the accident. Twelve cars were involved. Tony Stewart ended up winning the race, but his mood was somber after he exited his car.

Sunday's Daytona 500 will be broadcast on Fox at 1PM ET.
